SIA-ACS
The new, recognised performance standard for the security industry.
Security Industry Authority (SIA).Exist to manage the licensing of the private security industry as set out in the Private Security Industry Act 2001. They also aim to raise standards of professionalism and skills within the private security industry and to promote and spread best practice.
Standards within the security industry have never before received so much attention. The proliferation of unscrupulous and poor performing companies attracts the attention of your customers. There has never been a more important time for security companies to prove their quality and probity.
In 2003, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) was created as a result of the Private Security Industry Act (2001) with a mission "to help protect society by collaboratively developing and achieving high standards in the private security industry".
The Act required the SIA to establish a "system of inspection for providers of security services, under which those organisations who satisfactorily meet the agreed standards may be registered as approved, and may advertise themselves as such".
The SIA consequently introduced the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) for manned security companies and others. Assessments are required to be conducted on behalf of the SIA by third-party Assessing Bodies.
